After spending the night together on the night of their college graduation Dexter and Em are shown each year on the same date to see where they are in their lives. They are sometimes together, sometimes not, on that day. Anne Hathaway’s first major role came in the short-lived television series Get Real. She gained widespread recognition for her roles in The Princess Diaries and its 2004 sequel as a young girl who discovers she’s a member of royalty, opposite Julie Andrews and Heather Matarazzo. She also had a notable role in Nicholas Nickleby opposite Charlie Hunnam and Jamie Bell.
Born in Hong Kong to father Adrian (banker) and mother Janet (journalist), Romola Garai’s unusual name is the female version of Romolo, an Italian name for boys (from Latin Romulus, the founder of Rome). She grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong until she was eight when her family returned to lay roots in Wiltshire.
This remarkable, one-of-a-kind actress has, since the early 1990s, intrigued film and TV audiences with her glowing, yet careworn eccentricity and old world-styled glamour. Very much in demand these days as a character player, Patricia Clarkson nevertheless continues to avoid the temptation of money-making mainstream filming while reaping kudos and acting awards in out-of-the-way projects.
One Day at a Time” is one of those great shows that came out in the ’70s that showed how far women had come in TV terms. In the ’60s, you’d never have seen a show about a divorced woman who moved to Indianapolis with her daughters (Phillips, Bertinelli) to start a new life for themselves.

And what a great character they had in Ann Romano: spirited, opinionated, a fighter and someone who didn’t take the bull that men fed her and fought tooth and nail for everything she had. A lot of that strength was from anger, naturally, but she modulated it well.
Then there was always Schneider (Harrington), the apartment super where she lived. Something of a ladies’ man, he was always around to fix someone’s pipes (if you know what I mean), but Ann wisely kept her distance. She knew a goof when she saw one, and Schneider’s scenes were largely played for laughs. Good choice.
