Unlike the previous movie, all the action is on the surface, above the ground and the main trigger here is a human error by two railway engineers that sets in motion a chain of events that leads to an unmanned train rushing towards thickly populated area.
The veteran engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) along with recently qualified conductor (Chris Pine) undertakes the task to stop the massacre by chasing down the train and stop the disaster from striking the city they reside in. The opening credits of the movie claim that it is ‘based on real incident’. There had been a similar accident in Ohio and not Pennsylvania as the movie depicts plus the amount of dramatization was definitely over the top in comparison to the original incident.

The screenplay bears the clear stamp of Tony Scott with madly moving scenes with hardly any pauses. Its like a whirlwind motion of the camera which gives an edge to the on screen depiction at places and well actually sticks out as a sore thumb too in parts where audience would wish to see more of the actors. Working with Denzel Washington ensures that a solid performance is underway and Scott has played safe for himself that way. Washington is pretty good as the experienced engineer brought in as the hero. He shines despite the script falling short of support. However he is amply supported and complimented by Chris Pine, who also has done a remarkable job with his role. Rosario Dawson hasn’t really got much to do here. Only the central two characters have been defined well. The peripheral characters do not have substance and that is what makes the movie take a nose dive.

The movie has a lot of flaws and irritating factors to ruin it, but then Washington and Pine manage well to pull it out of and capture the audience whenever they flash on the screen. Definitely worth a watch for the work of Denzel Washington and Chris Pine if nothing else. As for Mr Scott, heres hoping he gets to be with Denzel for his next venture as well, if the scriptwriting remains more or less the same. Watch Unstoppable movie online
