The Old West.. where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world. 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford).
Over the next couple weeks you’re going to be seeing quite a bit of reports focusing on Jon Favreau‘s next film, Cowboys & Aliens. The first salvo comes today as the film’s first teaser poster has arrived. There will be a trailer on Wednesday afternoon, but in the meantime let this image prime you for the film’s genre mash-up.
So what we’ve got here is a shadowy image of Daniel Craig as the film’s hero, armed with the rifle and alien tech wrist-thingy that Mr. Favreau brought from the set of Iron Man. In fact, this whole poster is very reminiscent of early teaser images for the Iron Man films. That works for me. Looking forward to the trailer for Cowboys & Aliens as what I’ve seen from the film so far (with some unfinished effects) was a lot more impressive than I would have expected.
Cowboys & Aliens is written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof and directed by Jon Favreau. It stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, and Noah Ringer. The film will release on July 29, 2011.

Watch A Better Life Movie Online
MY THOUGHTS: From Chris Weitz, director of New Moon and The Golden Compass (and one of the stars of the infamous Chuck and Buck), comes a movie about illegal immigrants in California. A father (Bichir) gets a truck in the hopes of improving his family’s fortunes so he can help his son get a good education. Then the truck gets stolen and he has to get it back without help from the police, since he’s an illegal. The tone seems serious, maybe a little sentimental. It just doesn’t look that appealing. Maybe it’s because the summer movie season hasn’t started yet. After a month and a half of brainless action movies, I might be in the mood for something more serious. But it just seems treacly. This could be due to the music in the trailer. Give me something that doesn’t sound like you borrowed it from The Notebook. Weitz has directed some good films though, notably About a Boy which may have a similar tone so I’ll hold out some hope.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes film is a SciFi film directed by Rupert Watt and starring James Franco and Frieda Pinto. It is a film adaptation of the Planet of the Apes series and set for released on August 5, 2011 through 20th Century Fox.
Will Rodman (James Franco) is a brilliant scientist that genetically engineered genes of apes. He wanted to develop a cure for Alzheimer's disease by experimenting on apes. Ceasar, Rodman's test subject, begin to mutate very rapidly and develop an intelligence that's more of a human. With this high intelligence, Ceasar will then lead a revolt that will challenge human for supremacy.
The film was based on the film Planet of the Apes but unlike the previous films where humans crash landed on a planet filled with apes, the set of this film is here on Earth. The character Will Rodman was first offered to Tobey Maguire, but for some undisclosed issue it was dropped down by Maguire and the role went to James Franco. But I never thought of James Franco as a second options tot this role. In fact, he did great in his previous film 127 hours.
Franco was cast after talks with Tobey Maguire broke down. Freida Pinto and John Lithgowjoined the cast on June 22, 2010. Andy Serkis will play Caesar, the ape that leads the revolt. Tom Felton will also star as the human character Dodge. As of July 12, 2010, Brian Cox was in final negotiations to join the cast. According to his Twitter page, David Hewletthas also joined the cast, though he has not mentioned what his role in the film will be. Canadian actress Chelah Horsdal will also star as Irina.
Filming began in July 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. Filming also headed to San Francisco, California (main setting), and around O'ahu, Hawaii.Unlike previous films in the series, the apes in the film will be created digitally using CGI technology, by Weta Digital.
The full-length trailer for the latest in the Planet of the Apes saga, a long-in-development prequel entitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes, has debuted and you can watch it below.

Breslin is Janie Jones, a 13-year-old with an addict for a mother (Elisabeth Shue). When mom decides to get clean, she opts to leave Janie with her father, semi-rock star Ethan Brand (Alessandro Nivola). Too bad Ethan doesn’t even know he has a kid. Despite being unconvinced he’s really the father, when Janie’s mother bails, Ethan is left with no choice but to bring Janie aboard his tour bus.
World, watch out for Abigail Breslin. Thanks to nine years of work, we know she’s a talented actress, but Janie Jones really proves she’s on another level. The film not only reveals her as an incredibly talented singer, but as an actress who can take a subpar script, breathe life into it and make it somewhat enjoyable.
Janie isn’t troublesome in the least; it’s her father that causes all the problems. Not only does he stomp around unwilling to accept the fact that he has a child, but his drinking gets out of control as does his attitude. When his escapades become too much to handle, Ethan’s band and manager decide it’s time to part ways leaving Ethan and Janie alone.

Inspired by the bestselling novel "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See, the film is a timeless portrait of female friendship.
In 19th-century China, seven year old girls Snow Flower and Lily are matched as laotong – or "old sames" – bound together for eternity. Isolated by their families, they furtively communicate by taking turns writing in a secret language, nu shu, between the folds of a white silk fan.
In a parallel story in present day Shanghai, the laotong's descendants, Nina and Sophia, struggle to maintain the intimacy of their own childhood friendship in the face of demanding careers, complicated love lives, and a relentlessly evolving Shanghai. Drawing on the lessons of the past, the two modern women must understand the story of their ancestral connection, hidden from them in the folds of the antique white silk fan, or risk losing one another forever.
What unfolds are two stories, generations apart, but everlasting in their universal notion of love, hope

Really it's just a chance for us to post about movies that are coming out soon or we have already seen that are based on historical fiction novels.
First up, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.
I love Lisa See's books so it was such a thrill to see that a movie is being made of her book. I have to say though, the trailer didn't really do a lot for me, particularly due to the introduction of a modern storyline. I will make an effort to watch it in the hope that it will capture some of the magic of the book.

Starting with a view of opening a medium sized gate along with a message from an unknown voice “The World is always changing.” That is absolutely correct. Scene of moving cars on a long bridge is the perfect example of change. The voice says that we have to look at the past to find what doesn’t change. Let me tell you that the love of a strong relationship never changes. This story is about an unbreakable bond of two sisters and the secret fan. Watch the trailer below to indulge yourself in it. Werner Herzog has cemented his reputation as one of the most original, unique, and fascinating filmmakers of the last half century. With his uncompromising style, memorable imagery, and flitting between genres with apparent ease, the release of another one of his films has become unmissable in my eyes.
The latest in a series of uniquely styled documentaries—after the haunting Grizzly Man and the unforgettably beautiful Encounters At the End of the World—is Cave of Forgotten Dreams, which takes us deep into the Ancient French Chauvet cave to look at and explore the oldest cave paintings in the world, dating back some 32,000 years.
The subject might be one of those which seems like a stretch to spend en entire feature documentary on, but it is explored in full detail and is made even more fascinating than it otherwise would be on its own. This is helped largely by the presence of Herzog himself, both as we see him exploring the cave in person/on camera and through his incomparable narration, his deadpan Germanic voice making even the smallest or insignificant detail seem wondrous. Werner Herzog has done it again. With his omnivorous eye- which has most recently darted from low budget sci-fi collage, The Wild Blue Yonder, to crazy ursine documentary, Grizzly Man, via Hollywood-produced snake-eating Vietnam drama, Rescue Dawn, to off-beat Aeschylean psychological horror (based on a true story), My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?- the German auteur has selected, for his latest trick, a ritualised pseudo-documentary on Palaeolithic artworks. How could he fail?
Well, let’s take a look at the facts:
1. Werner Herzog, regarded by many as the greatest filmmaker of his generation.
2. The Chauvet Cave, unearthed in 1994, necromantic gallery of the earliest known cave art, up to 32,000 years old, perfectly preserved by an extraordinary combination of geological fortuities, and last beheld by human eyes some five-and-twenty thousand years ago. Guarded fastidiously, since its modern discovery the cave has seen fewer visitors than the summit of Mount Everest.
3. 3D.
What a deliciously profane triumvirate. On the basis the first two: it’s the film Herzog was made to make. Landing on 3, perfection is turned farcically on its lovely head. I laughed when I first heard about it. But The Cave of Forgotten Dreams is not a joke. Nor is it the fourth horseman of the apocalypse. I’ll come to the 3D, but first let’s consider the film and filmmaker. The happy marriage of Herzog and the Chauvet Cave begins rather more in sickness than health. The first problem for its existence was legislative. Herzog was required to become an employee of the French government (for a nominal salary of €1, on which he paid tax) in order to obtain permission to access the cave. Watch Cave of Forgotten Dreams Movie Online
Next, the hindrance of exacting conservational measures, which necessitated the use of equipment specially designed to reduce the emission of heat, and restricted the number of crew to four to prevent the damaging accumulation of water vapour from breath. With access and equipment sorted, the third inconvenience was merely the hazardous levels of radon and carbon dioxide in the cave, which limited hours of contiguous work to two. And the fourth obstacle – well, fourth obstacle is Herzog’s syncopated imagination, which wouldn’t consent to a straightforward documentary.

Well, let’s take a look at the facts:
1. Werner Herzog, regarded by many as the greatest filmmaker of his generation.

The first thing you notice about Lebanon, Pa. is how freaking gorgeous it is. There was a time when you came to a festival like SXSW expecting its indie world premiere slate to largely feature movies that look like they were shot through a screen door. Ben Hickernell's second feature, "filmed" on a $15,000 Red One camera in Philadelphia and surrounding communities, looks as good as any moderately budgeted studio feature, and better than most. The fact that filmmaking has become so cheap anyone can do it is repeated so often that it's become a truism, but I'm not sure any movie has illustrated it as starkly as this one. The effect is amplified by the fact that I saw Hickernell's debut, Cellar, five years ago at the now-defunct Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema. It did not look like this. Watch Lebanon, Pa. I traveled to SXSW seeking a film that would truly move me; and after days of searching I had some brushes with greatness but nothing really fit the bill, that is until I took the journey to Lebanon, PA.
